Trip Overview

These two festivals are community festivals taking place in Bumthang valley. The Domkhar Tsechu takes place in Chumey valley and then the Ura Yakchoe takes places in the serene valley of Ura just about 30 km away from Chumey valley. Bumthang is considered as a cultural and religious hotspot of Bhutan and these two communities are located on sprawling meadows. The houses are all traditionally built and we have partnered with some of the best noble houses in the village to provide our guests with farmhouse stays. As vouched by our visitors, farmhouse stays gives visitor the best opportunity to learn about local lifestyles and this trip will not disappoint you in doing just that. People from all over Bhutan come here to witness the festival dressing in their finest clothes. The festival is being celebrated to bring happiness, better harvest and prosperity in the village. Held annually in the month of May, it also allows visitors to witness an important relic that is put on display for the people to receive blessings. The trip combines the best attractions of the country and takes you on a culture ride to the valleys of Paro, Thimphu, Punakha,Trongsa and Bumthang..

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to visit Bhutan?
Yes. Almost all international visitors need a visa, arranged in advance through a licensed operator like Bhutan Travel Club — you cannot get one on arrival independently. A one-time visa fee of USD 40 applies, and we take care of the whole application once your trip is confirmed. Indian nationals travel on a permit instead of a visa.
What is the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)?
Bhutan charges a daily Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per person, per night (USD 50 for children aged 6–12; free for children 5 and under). Indian nationals pay Nu. 1,200 per night. The SDF funds free healthcare, education and Bhutan's carbon-negative conservation, and is arranged together with your trip — there is nothing extra to pay on arrival.
When is the best time to take this trip?
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the most popular, with clear skies, mild days and the biggest festivals. Winter is quiet, crisp and great value with sunny days, while summer (June–August) is lush and green with occasional afternoon rain. We are happy to advise on the best window for your dates.
How do I book and pay for my trip?
Once we have finalised your itinerary we send a confirmation invoice. Payment is by secure bank wire transfer or card. Your SDF and visa are processed together with the tour, so everything is settled before you arrive — no cash handovers on the ground.
Is Bhutan safe, and will I have internet?
Bhutan is consistently ranked one of Asia's safest destinations, with very low crime and welcoming people. Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and towns, and a local SIM card with mobile data is inexpensive and easy to buy after you arrive.
What should I pack?
Bring layers for changeable mountain weather, a warm jacket for evenings and high passes, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, and a modest outfit — long trousers or skirt and covered shoulders — for visiting dzongs and temples. Your guide will advise on anything specific to your itinerary.
How much walking is involved on this tour?
Cultural tours are gentle, with short walks to dzongs, temples and viewpoints and the occasional optional hike — such as the climb to the Tiger's Nest. We keep a comfortable pace with plenty of stops, and can adjust to suit your group.
Is there a dress code for temples and dzongs?
Yes — please wear long trousers or a long skirt and keep your shoulders covered when visiting temples and dzongs. Hats are removed and shoes taken off before entering sacred rooms; your guide will let you know when.
Can this itinerary be customised?
Absolutely. Every Bhutan Travel Club trip is private and flexible. Tell us what draws you — food, textiles, hiking, photography, festivals — and we will shape the days around your interests and pace.
