About this property
Bumthang is four valleys rather than one, and Chamkhar — the town most people mean when they say Jakar — is the way into all of them. Yugharling sits here, among the cluster of places that make Bumthang the spiritual heartland of the country: Jakar Dzong on its ridge, Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang, and the Chamkhar Chhu running between them.
Most itineraries give Bumthang two or three nights, which is the least it deserves, and a resort of this size makes a practical base for them — near enough to walk into Chamkhar, quiet enough to come back to. At around 2,600 metres the air is thin and the evenings turn properly cold, even in summer.
Why we like it
- In Chamkhar, the main town of the Bumthang valleys
- Close to Jakar Dzong, Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang
- A practical base for the two or three nights Bumthang deserves
