About this property
Halfway along Bhutan’s east–west highway the road swings round a gorge and Trongsa Dzong appears on the far wall — an enormous white terrace of a building that stops most people mid-sentence. Yangkhil sits on the slope just above the town, angled at exactly that view across the Mangde Chhu.
It is a comfortable, unfussy Bhutanese-run resort rather than a destination in itself: low blocks stepped down the hillside, a quiet garden, and the straightforward hospitality that suits a single night on a long drive. Almost everyone travelling between the western valleys and Bumthang stops in Trongsa, and this is the standard place to do it.
Why we like it
- Faces Trongsa Dzong across the Mangde Chhu gorge
- A natural overnight stop on the drive between Punakha and Bumthang
- A short drive from Trongsa town and the Ta Dzong watchtower museum
