About this property
Trongsa is the hinge of the country — the point where the east–west highway swings around the head of the Mangde Chhu gorge, and where the great dzong that gave Bhutan its kings runs along the spur below the town. Almost everyone travelling beyond Punakha stops here, and there is a good deal more to the place than a bed on the way east.
The resort serves that touring traffic: a night’s rest between two long drives, with time at either end for the dzong itself and the circular Ta Dzong watchtower museum on the hill above it. Central Bhutan sits high and turns cold after dark for much of the year, so guests should pack a layer more than they think they need.
