Six Senses Punakha

Resort · Punakha

About this property

Six Senses Punakha occupies a shelf of hillside at Yebesa, above the terraced rice fields of the Punakha valley. The main lodge — nicknamed the flying farmhouse — is a traditional Bhutanese form rebuilt in glass, so that the whole eastern wall opens onto the Mo Chhu river and the ridgeline beyond. At around 1,200 metres, Punakha is the warmest of the valleys on the western circuit and the easiest place in Bhutan to spend an unhurried day.

The resort has a swimming pool set into the terrace, a full spa with Bhutanese and Ayurvedic treatments, and an organic garden that supplies the kitchen. It is one of five Six Senses lodges in Bhutan, each built to a different design in a different valley.

Punakha Dzong, the winter seat of the Je Khenpo and arguably the most beautiful fortress in the Himalaya, is a short drive downstream at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu. The suspension bridge and the walk up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten both start within twenty minutes of the property.
