About this property
Six Senses built its Bhutan lodges as a circuit of five, one to a valley, and the Gangtey one stands high on the western rim of Phobjikha with the whole glacial bowl laid out below — the marshland where the black-necked cranes winter, the scatter of farmhouses, and Gangtey Goenpa on its spur opposite.
At around 3,000 metres this is the coldest stop on most western itineraries and the one with the least to do, which is rather the point. The valley is a place for walking the Gangtey Nature Trail, visiting the monastery, and watching weather move across an open landscape; the lodge is designed around that view rather than around its own grounds.
Why we like it
- High on the western rim of the Phobjikha valley
- Overlooks the crane marshes and Gangtey Goenpa
- One of the five Six Senses lodges on the Bhutan circuit
