About this property
Bumthang is the spiritual heart of Bhutan — four broad valleys at around 2,600 metres, reached either by the long drive east over the Pele La and Yotong La passes or by the short domestic flight into Bathpalathang. Six Senses Bumthang stands in pine forest a little outside Jakar, the valley’s small main town, within reach of the Chokhor valley’s temples and the dzong on the ridge.
It is one of five Six Senses properties strung along the western and central circuit, each built to a different design in a different valley, and it is the one that most obviously belongs to its landscape — low buildings among the trees rather than a hotel set down on a hillside. We use it as the eastern end of a lodge-to-lodge itinerary, usually for two or three nights, while guests work through Bumthang’s monasteries at an unhurried pace.
Why we like it
- Set in pine forest just outside Jakar, in central Bhutan
- Within reach of the Chokhor valley temples — Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey and Tamshing
- One of five Six Senses lodges on the western and central circuit
