About this property
Jakar is the small town at the centre of the Chokhor valley, the busiest of Bumthang’s four, with the dzong on the ridge above it and the Chamkhar Chhu running past below. It is an easy place to be on foot — a single street of shops and cafés, the temples of Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey and Tamshing a short drive up the valley, and a brewery and a cheese factory that most guests end up visiting whether they intended to or not.
Jakar Village Lodge is a modest, mid-range place in that valley — the practical choice where the alternatives are a large tourist hotel or one of the luxury lodges out in the forest. It fits the two or three nights most itineraries give Bumthang, which is time enough for the main temples, a walk or two and an evening with nothing planned.
Why we like it
- In the Chokhor valley at Jakar, the centre of Bumthang
- A short drive from Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey Lhakhang and Jakar Dzong
- A mid-range lodge rather than a large tourist hotel
