About this property
Punakha lies low and warm by Bhutanese standards, where rice terraces run down to the confluence of the Mo Chhu and the Pho Chhu and bougainvillea flowers in a month the highlands are still frozen. COMO’s property here sits upriver from the dzong, on the slope above the Mo Chhu, looking out across the valley floor.
It is the smaller and quieter of the group’s two Bhutan houses — a country-house scale of place rather than a resort campus, with the international standard of service the brand is known for. Most guests pair it with a night or two in Paro, or use it as the warm, low-altitude half of a western Bhutan circuit.
Why we like it
- Above the Mo Chhu, upriver from Punakha Dzong
- In the warm, low Punakha valley — a welcome drop in altitude after Thimphu
- The smaller of COMO’s two Bhutan properties
