About this property
Down on the valley floor beside the Mo Chhu, a short way upstream of Punakha Dzong, Pemako occupies a stretch of riverbank where the water runs wide and shallow and the sound of it carries through the whole property. This is the low, subtropical end of western Bhutan — rice, banana palms and a climate that stays mild when Thimphu has turned cold.
The layout is villas spread through riverside grounds rather than a single block, which gives the place a private, camp-like feel at a luxury standard. It works best as a two-night stop: long enough to walk up to the Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten in the morning and be back beside the river by the afternoon.
Why we like it
- On the bank of the Mo Chhu, upstream of Punakha Dzong
- Villas set through riverside grounds rather than a single block
- In the low, subtropical reaches of the Punakha valley
