About this property
Come into Bhutan overland and this is where it starts. Phuentsholing sits on the plain where the hills stop, pressed against Jaigaon on the Indian side and separated from it by little more than an ornamental gate — hot, busy, subtropical, and nothing like the valleys above.
Ga-Me-Ga is a straightforward town hotel of the kind Phuentsholing does well: somewhere to sleep, eat and deal with the paperwork before the climb to Thimphu the next morning. Nobody comes here for the setting. The road out of town, though — up through Kharbandi and Gedu, gaining a couple of thousand metres in as many hours — is one of the great drives in the country.
Why we like it
- In Phuentsholing, Bhutan's border town facing Jaigaon in West Bengal
- A first or last night for travellers arriving overland via Bagdogra
